I choose… America.
To tell the truth – I'm stressed.
True, these are not our Knesset elections, and true, I am not well versed in the intricacies of American politics and do not know the First Amendment to the Constitution by heart. But I must say that I have a clear preference in the elections for the presidency of the United States . And no, it's not the outspoken billionaire who lives in a gilded tower in the heart of Manhattan. Racist and chauvinist opinions don't do it for me, what to do.
I personally really, really want Hillary Clinton to be the next president of the USA and I really hope that this is what will be announced on the news tomorrow morning. In my opinion, it is very important that at the head of the greatest power in the world there will finally be a woman, and another woman with experience, wisdom and abilities like Mrs. Clinton. Just imagine a summit meeting between the leaders, oops – leadership – of the three great powers: British Prime Minister Theresa May, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and US President Hillary Clinton. For me it's a dream.
Female power is not a doomsday vision, and at Lichi Translations it has been a reality for years, the team of women who work at Lichi proves again and again that women are a force that cannot be ignored.
In general, the elections in the United States are a kind of beacon – the whole world raises its eyes and waits to see in which direction this great nation is going.
Our relationship at Litchi Translations for the United States is many years old . In fact, an American company was a significant milestone in the development of Lychee Translations from a one-woman business working mainly in Chinese to a company that provides translation services in all languages, and not just the languages of the Far East, which we focused on in the first years of our activity.
Not far from the Trump Towers in the center of Manhattan, were the offices of the company "Meaningful Machines", one of the managers of which was an Israeli entrepreneur and inventor, and with whom I worked for approximately five years. The company laid the foundations for automatic translation in the style of Google Translate, and although it did not break into consciousness, the technology it developed played an important part in shaping the milestones that today allow machine translation to be performed, with the result sometimes not being bad at all.
For a long time I managed teams of translators in various languages for the Americans, here in Israel. The company chose to carry out the project in Israel in order to have translators who speak more than two languages, so that both Hebrew and English will be the languages of review, in addition to the target language which was the native language of the translators. We collected crazy amounts of texts, scanned from hundreds of books for example, to feed the company's computers with bilingual information. The work was varied, fascinating and sometimes unclear (like translating a database of first names from all kinds of places in the world) but we felt that we were doing something important, maybe even historic.
Another connection to the United States is through the accreditation project in which some of the hospitals throughout the country take part and we have the honor of providing the translation services for them. The hospital is undergoing an audit carried out by a large American company that tests, according to strict international standards, the service system and the quality of care in the hospitals.
During the accreditation week, Lychee Translations provides the hospital with a team of Hebrew and English speaking interpreters who will serve as the channel of communication between the reviewers and the Israeli hospital staff. And as we have already learned, with the Americans there are no discounts and no rounding corners. In America, as in America, they work by the book and maybe this is one of the reasons why the USA is the power it is.
Other American clients who work with Litchi Translations are the US Embassy in Israel, large American translation companies, Jewish women's organizations and more.
So now all I can do is sit and wait for the truth and the voices of the sailors, after all I can't vote and influence, and in my heart I offer a silent prayer and wish the American people a good president!
